By Wayne Lutz, photos by Katherine Fialkowski. The entire history of the United States is one long story of the struggle of men to be free. For as long as mankind rules the Earth, some men will seek to deprive other men of freedom. A place like the Philadelphia National Cemetery is a reminder of that struggle. The stones and granite monuments there are the tablet upon which is written the story of that struggle.

By Anthony Oleck. Other than the fact that people are protesting in the streets the two have nothing in common. Egypt’s revolution at first glance appears to be a quest for freedom; Wisconsin is a protest more in line with what we saw in Greece and France. In those two countries, we saw powerful public sector unions trying to protect and preserve overly generous health, retirement and pension benefits — benefits the people paying their bills neither have nor can afford.

I have heard the call for fiscal sanity at all levels of government, and I am up to the challenge. During my tenure as County Commissioner, I have led a fiscally conservative and responsible county government. I have helped make us one of the top 24 best managed counties in the United States and the #1 county in Pennsylvania. We are the healthiest, the wealthiest and the best educated county in our Commonwealth, and one of the best places to raise a family in our entire nation!

By Jim Jordan. Seven years ago I joined my local municipal Planning Commission, which was working on its Comprehensive Plan created under the guidelines outlined in the Chester County document called “Landscapes”. Reading through this document, I found what appeared to be inconsistencies with land rights granted under our Constitutions.

By Chris Hill. Every form of media has been abuzz with the news out of Egypt. Whether they are peaceful demonstrations in pursuit of “freedom,” or riots in search of a strong man depends upon to whom you turn for news. What is not in doubt is that President Muhammad Hosni Sayyid Mubarak is not going to be the head man in charge for much longer. What happens next is anybody’s guess.

By Pat Carmody, candidate for Chester County District Attorney. Our forefathers wrote the constitution to protect their freedoms from being taken away. Criminals regularly take the freedoms of citizens away by breaking into their homes, robbing or assaulting them. Victims need DAs to fight for them, which is why I chose this profession.

By Richard Minnick. Since the early history of our country, the protection of our basic freedoms has been of the utmost importance to Americans. A poem by Langston Hughes, “Freedom,” emphasizes the struggle to enjoy the freedoms that he knows are rightfully his. He reflects the American desire for freedom now when he says, “I do not need my freedom when I’m dead. I cannot live on tomorrow’s bread.” American’s recognize the need for freedom in its entirety without compromise or fear.
